The ideaBig flavor, zero syrup

1

Muddled, not sweetened

Crushing fruit and herbs releases flavor that syrup usually covers up.

2

Citrus in every glass

Lime or lemon makes a drink taste bright without sugar.

3

Bubbles add body

Sparkling water gives the feel of a real mixed drink.

4

Sweetness is optional

A few drops of monk fruit, only if you want it.

Good to knowYour questions, answered

Are these mocktails completely sugar-free?They have no added sugar, syrup or sweetened juice. Fresh fruit and citrus contain a small amount of natural sugar, so they are not zero-sugar. For exact numbers, check the fruit you use.
What is the best sugar substitute for mocktails?A liquid sweetener, because it dissolves in cold drinks. Liquid monk fruit or liquid stevia both work. Start with 2 drops and taste.
Can these be made without any sweetener?Yes. Six of the ten use none at all. With ripe fruit, most people do not miss it.
Can sugar-free mocktails be made in a pitcher?Yes. Multiply the recipe by 6. Muddle in the pitcher, add ice, then top with sparkling water just before serving.
What can replace sparkling water?Club soda, plain seltzer or chilled herbal tea. Check flavored waters and tonic, because many contain added sugar.
How do you muddle without a muddler?Use the handle of a wooden spoon. Press and twist gently. The aim is to bruise the fruit and herbs, not shred them.
