Questions people ask
Do you stir a dump cake?
No. The layers are the whole point. Fruit on the bottom, dry cake mix on top, butter over everything. Stirring makes it gummy. Can fresh strawberries be used instead of pie filling?
Yes. Toss 4 cups of sliced strawberries with ½ cup of sugar and 2 tablespoons of cornstarch. Let them sit 10 minutes before layering.Should the butter be melted or sliced?
Melted is easier to spread evenly. Thin slices of cold butter also work. Cover as much of the cake mix as you can either way.Why does my dump cake have dry flour spots?
The butter did not reach them. Drizzle slowly, and spoon bubbling juices over any dry patches halfway through baking. Is dump cake served warm or cold?
Either. Warm with vanilla ice cream is the classic. Cold from the fridge, it tastes more like cheesecake. Can a dump cake be made ahead?
Yes. Bake it up to a day ahead and refrigerate. Rewarm at 300°F for 15 minutes before serving.More easy desserts
